(Honolulu)– Carbon Lighthouse, a clean energy services company, announced a partnership with Aloha United Way (AUW), a nonprofit organization that builds stronger, healthier communities, to launch a project focused on turning energy waste into guaranteed financial returns at the Castle and Cooke Community Service Center (AUW Building). The analytics process, which uncovers areas of energy inefficiencies throughout the building, concluded earlier this spring. Implementation of energy efficiency measures that will generate savings on energy costs are currently underway.
The 57,000 square-foot AUW Building, located at 200 North Vineyard Boulevard, houses almost 30 nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to providing vital community services.
An average of $40,000 in annual energy savings will be passed on to AUW Building tenants through reduced Common Area Maintenance rates. The 10-year agreement with Carbon Lighthouse will save more than $400,000 in energy costs. Carbon Lighthouse is able to guarantee the real dollar value of these energy savings by staying engaged with the property and its on-site teams to ensure the energy efficiency measures continue long term. This translates into sustained building financial value, increased tenant comfort, reduced carbon emissions and in this case, energy savings for tenants.
“This energy efficiency project with Carbon Lighthouse provides Aloha United Way with the unique opportunity to support our sustainability efforts, reduce our carbon emissions and achieve an average of $40,000 in savings a year that we will pass on to our tenants,” said Norm Baker, chief operating officer of Aloha United Way. “Tenants can reallocate the energy savings to other important programs that serve the community.”
“We are excited to be working with a well-respected, community-minded partner like Aloha United Way,” said Brenden Millstein, chief executive officer of Carbon Lighthouse. “As one of Hawai‘i’s most important nonprofit organizations, AUW shares our goal of building a strong and sustainable local community in Hawai‘i, and through energy savings, they will be able to further support the work of its nonprofit tenants.”
Through Efficiency Production – Carbon Lighthouse’s unique, data-driven process – the company deployed dozens of sensors throughout the AUW Building to collect thousands of original thermodynamic data points – from air and water temperature and flow rates in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment), to lighting and occupancy. Supplementing this with utility, weather and other available data, Carbon Lighthouse used its proprietary CLUES® software and modeled thousands of energy scenarios to arrive at the most financially beneficial and eco-friendly solution for the building.
Aloha United Way joins a growing number of organizations, including A&B Properties, Parallel Investment Partners, Hawaiian Airlines, Elemental Excelerator and Ulupono Initiative who have been working with Carbon Lighthouse since 2016 to build a more sustainable and resilient Hawai‘i through profit-driven carbon elimination.
