(KŌLOA) – The Department of Parks and Recreation (DOPR) held a blessing ceremony on Tuesday,
commemorating the completion of the playcourt renovations at Anne Knudsen Park, also known as
Kōloa Park, on Maluhia Road. This project included significant renovations and rebuilding of the tennis
court, pickleball courts and basketball court at the park.
“Mahalo to our Parks team and our south side community who have been strong supporters of
these renovations and establishing pickleball courts in our parks, especially as the sport continues to rise
in popularity,” said Mayor Kawakami. “As soon as the courts reopened, so many residents were already
filling up the courts. It’s nice to see our Kōloa Park being enjoyed again by all.”
The scope of work for this project included the complete demolition of the existing basketball
and tennis courts and the complete rebuild of the courts with new asphalt and surfacing. The rebuild
resulted in a basketball court, a tennis court with two blended pickleball courts and four dedicated
pickleball courts.
Tuesday’s blessing was officiated by Kahu Sean Chun, and attended by approximately 100
individuals.
The $958,000 project was funded through the County’s Capital Improvement Program and was
completed by Jas. W. Glover Ltd. General Contractors.Construction began in April 2022, and the playcourts were substantially completed and opened
to the public on May 1, 2023.
