(Honolulu)– Cementing its role in the community it serves by continuously providing affordable, quality medical treatment, Island Urgent Care will celebrate its 10th anniversary next month.
With three locations serving Oahu, in Waikiki, Kahala and Hawaii Kai, IUC has played an important role in the local health care network, by providing Oahu residents with immediate, no-appointment-needed, convenient and affordable medical care.
Founded in 2006 by Dr. Robert Ruggieri, Island Urgent Care is a pioneer in offering walk-in medical care at affordable prices to patients looking for urgent care without the need to make an appointment or suffer the stress a visit to the ER might bring. “To be able to celebrate our 10th anniversary with our patients and community is something very special” Dr. Ruggieri explained. “We are here for the community. We have cared for families in Oahu since 2006 and now, more than ever, we reaffirm our commitment to our valued patients.”
Island Urgent Care clinics are unique because they are the only clinics on Oahu staffed by board certified emergency physicians. Emergency physicians have training and experience in all branches of medicine including adult, pediatrics, gynecology, orthopedics and many others.
Island Urgent care is open 7 days a week, except for Thanksgiving day, Christmas Day and New Year’s. IUC treats all ages without limitation, and offer x-ray and lab services. IUC’s ever-growing team of 55 staff has now treated nearly one-quarter million individuals in its 10 years of service.
A graduate of the University of Hawaii Medical School, Dr. Ruggieri went on to Residency in Massachusetts, and then returned to Hawaii to practice Emergency Medicine at Queen Medical Center for 7 years before moving on to open the Kahala Urgent Care in 2006.
“I saw a need in the community for alternatives to treat injuries and illness without the added stress due to long wait times, and costs associated to emergency room visits.” I wanted to offer easier access and lower costs for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and illness.”
In conjunction with their 10-year anniversary, IUC is also celebrating the renovation of the original Kahala location and the opening of the 3rd location on Kapahulu, on the edge of Waikiki.
All locations offer free parking and provide care for many minor emergencies, including Cough/Cold, Asthma, Flu, Sprains/Strains, Stitches, Fractures, Allergic Reactions, Dehydration, Migraine, School/Sports & Pre-employment Physicals, and more.
“To be able to serve the island of Oahu for the past 10 years, I couldn’t be more proud of our excellent staff, always ready to provide quality patient care with walk-in convenience,” explained Dr. Ruggieri.
With the increase in healthcare coverage due to the Affordable Care Act, IUC knows that now, more than ever, the community needs a reliable, easy to access source for their medical needs. Caring for our local community is the number one priority at IUC. IUC looks forward to the next 10 years and beyond, with more locations projected.
Most insurance is accepted. No appointment is needed, open 7 days a week.
