(Honolulu)- Kaiser Permanente’s Moanalua Medical Center has been recognized and awarded with an “A” rating for patient safety in a national report card issued by The Leapfrog Group, rating the hospital among the safest in the country. The Leapfrog Group is an employer-backed nonprofit group focused on health care quality.
The Leapfrog report card, also known as the Hospital Safety Score, exclusively measures safety by evaluating errors, accidents, and infections. Key process measures involved in determining the score for each hospital evaluated in the survey included the management structures and procedures a hospital has in place to protect patients from errors, accidents and injuries.
“The mission of Kaiser Permanente is to be the model for quality health care and to continually strive to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve,” said Peter Makowski, Hospital Administrator for Kaiser Permanente’s Moanalua Medical Center. “We are very proud of this acknowledgement from The Leapfrog Group, which reflects our commitment to adhering to evidence-based practices that improve the care that we offer to our members.”
The Leapfrog Group issues these Hospital Safety Scores to initiate breakthrough improvements in the quality, safety, and affordability of health care for Americans. In this past survey, The Leapfrog Group rated a total of 2,652 hospitals across the country. Hospitals rated were given a grade of either A, B, C or “score depending,” based on 26 publicly reported national measures.
