(Honolulu)– The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will be closing a portion of Ulehawa Beach Park from 10 p.m. Friday, May 9 to 5 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2025 to allow for cleanup and maintenance of the area. The roughly two-week closure is coordinated in conjunction with Councilmember Andria Tupola, who is organizing a volunteer cleanup of the shoreline park on Saturday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Prior to that volunteer effort, City crews will delineate the closed area and conduct enforcements of the Stored Property Ordinance. The closed area is located on the makai-side of Farrington Highway, between the Hawai‘i Harvest Chinese Christian Alliance Church and Lualei Place. The adjacent parking lot and comfort station will remain open during the closure, and designated routes through the closed area will be created to allow ocean access. However, no one may remain in the closed area unless previously authorized.
If you are interested in joining the volunteer cleanup, meet at the parking lot near the closure at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. Please wear covered-toe shoes, heavy-duty gloves, hat, and sun protection. If can, register ahead of time with Councilmember Tupola’s office by emailing councildistrict1@honolulu.gov or calling (808) 861-2208. Mahalo in advance for your kokua!

The Honolulu Police Department reminds motorists to drive safely and stay alert while traveling near Ulehawa Beach Park during the partial closure and cleanup efforts. Although no road closures are planned, increased activity from volunteers and City workers is expected in the area. Please drive cautiously, watch for pedestrians, and obey all posted signs.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of the Nānākuli community while this portion of the park is closed. Similar park closures of this shoreline were conducted in April and November 2024.
