(Maui)– Most Maui County services and facilities are up and running after the passing of Tropical Storm Lane. Here is a list of the latest as of Monday, August 27th.
Parks & Rec – all parks and facilities open except for Lahaina Aquatics Center which could not do any pool maintenance over the weekend while the power was out. The LAC should reopen by Wednesday.
Transportation – all Maui Bus routes are back on regular schedule as well as MEO transportation services.
Water Supply – all water customers have been restored.
Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) – any individuals or businesses with damage are asked to report them to MEMA. This information will give the County of Maui a clearer picture of the damage caused by the storm and the fire and allow the county to determine if we qualify for federal assistance. To report storm damage contact MEMA officials at 270-7285.
Public Works – the repair of a collapsed culvert at Puu Way in Haiku could take months to repair, however a temporary pedestrian bridge access will be provided for the community in the next week. Also, those seeking permits to rebuild structures lost in the West Maui brushfires can file for an expedited building permit as allowed for under the Building Code. Call Public Works at 270-7845 for more details.
Finance – all Division of Motor Vehicle and Licensing offices as well as Real Property Tax offices are open.
Environmental Management – those seeking waivers to go to the landfill to dump storm debris must first register with MEMA by calling 270-7285. Otherwise trash pick-up is back on regular schedule, landfills are open and there are no wastewater spills to report.
