(LĪHU‘E) – The Kaua‘i Police Department is reminding residents and businesses to register or renew their alarm systems in order to comply with the Kaua‘i County Code.
According to the Kaua‘i County Code, Ordinance 931, all residential and commercial alarms must be registered with the Kaua‘i Police Department prior to activation or installation. Fire, auto and medical alarms are excluded.
The fee to register an alarm is $25 for the first year, and $10 upon renewal for each subsequent year. Registration fees are non-transferable. Expired or unregistered alarms could face a fine up to $100 for each occurrence that KPD responds to.
To register your alarm system, complete the following steps:
· Obtain an application either online atwww.kauai.gov/police, or in person at County of Kaua‘i, Alarm Records and Billing, 3990 Ka‘ana St., Suite 200, Līhu‘e, HI 96766.
· Submit your completed form via in person or by mail and a $25 registration fee payable to “County of Kaua‘i, Alarm Records and Billing.” Cash will not be accepted.
· All changes to the registration/permit need to be submitted in writing, faxed to 808-241-1659, or emailed toalarmcoordinator@kauai.gov.
As a courtesy, alarm renewal reminders are emailed to registered alarm holders 30 days prior to expiration. However, it is the responsibility of the alarm holder or user to keep the account current to avoid fines and fees.
