(Kapolei)–On a warm, sunshine filled Saturday morning hundreds of families dressed as their favorite superheroes like Batman, Hulk and Super Woman, to participate in the 1st Annual Hero Run held at the Kroc Center on April 11, 2015. The racecourse was pleasant, flat and used the roads surrounding The Salvation Army Kroc Center to ensure participants safety.
Throughout the course there were cheerleaders, musicians and drummers to help the runners reach the finish line. This race was not only for the grown-ups, there was also a 1k Keiki race for the youngest participants aged 14 and under. A keiki fun zone was set up on the lawn with bounce houses and post race entertainment for the whole family to have fun together. In addition to the after race snacks provided to participants, there were food trucks with ono grinds to choose from.
“It’s great to have an event like this so close to home and my kids were so excited to dress up and run in the race”, stated Mary Johnson of Kapolei.
According to Kroc Center Director of Operations, Bram Begonia, all proceeds of the Hero Run benefit the Kroc Center Hawaii’s Scholarship Program. “These scholarships help fund memberships for those families with economic difficulties. We don’t want money to be the reason why people can’t join the Kroc Center and events like this 5K help subsidize these programs,” Begonia told Hawaiiahe.
Begonia also invited all residents of the area to come take a tour of the Kroc Center and the many activities they have for every member of the family. “We are community driven and based, we want everyone to experience what the Kroc Center has to offer them.”
