(Hilo)– Hawai‘i Community College is offering a course during the spring 2019 semester titled “Yoga with Hawaiian Perspectives: The Magic of Yoga and the Mana‘o of Indigenous Traditions.” The course can be taken as a two-credit or non-credit class.
“Yoga is a map, an ancient healing practice, and a wholesome way of life,” says the instructor of the class, Marya Mann, PhD. “As a vehicle to navigate mindfully through this precious life, it shares roots with the profoundly beautiful Polynesian, ocean-spanning cosmology of Hawai‘i Island.”
The class will take place Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 12:50 p.m. from January 7 to May 10. In each class students will experience a full-body workout suitable for both beginner and seasoned yogis while exploring the main Yoga paths.
“We’ll touch on the sciences of Yoga (anatomy, neuroscience, and energy medicine), the arts of Chakra Healing, Yin and Restorative Yoga, and Mantra, Mudra, and Vinyasa sequences that awaken and soothe your three Souls,” says Mann. “Through lucid Yoga dreaming and Hawaiian meditations, we’ll align ourselves with the positive unfolding of our planet.”
“These teachings promote the well-bring of all creation,” Mann continues. “Like other indigenous lifestyle practices –T’ai Chi, Hula, and Sacred Dance — Yoga offers more than spiritual gymnastics – Yoga with Hawaiian Perspectives offers a philosophy for living well, loving wisely, and laying the foundations for a world of peace and prosperity.”
