(Hawaii)– From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Nicholas Garlow with HHS HealthBeat.
Any kind of disaster can impact your health. One approach can help you be ready for any and every type of storm. A go bag of items and a plan for action can make you ready for when a disaster hits. Include extra glasses, contact lenses, clothes, bottled water, and first aid supplies.
In HHS’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, Ed Gabriel suggests some other things you may need:
“Make sure you have copies of your credit card numbers. Those are important. Maybe a little extra cash, because if there’s a power outage, we all know ATM machines aren’t going to work, and cash will be essentially king.”
Also, set up a place where you and your family can connect or reconnect. And have a number where everyone can call and leave a message – somewhere outside of the immediate area that will not be affected by the event.
