(Honolulu)– The 2nd annual Honolulu St. Jude Give thanks. Walk™ is one of 90 events taking place in communities across the country on Nov. 17 to help kids battling cancer and other deadly diseases.
The noncompetitive 5K is an annual fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® that serves as the official kick-off event for the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign.
Donor dollars will help ensure that the hospital’s pioneering research and lifesaving treatments continue to save countless lives in Honolulu and beyond because St. Jude freely shares its research with the global medical community, helping children who never even visit St. Jude.
Although St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has helped push overall U.S. survival rates from 20 to 80 percent, pediatric cancer remains the leading cause of death due to disease among U.S. children older than 1. To further improve survival, more research breakthroughs and innovative treatments are needed.
Registration is free, but all participants are encouraged to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Visit www.givethankswalk.org to learn more about incentives and register.
Check-in for the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. starts at 7AM and the walk begins at 8AM at Magic Island, Ala Moana Regional Park.
ABOUT ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL
Since opening 50 years ago, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. No family ever pays St. Jude for the care their child receives and, for every child treated here, thousands more have been saved worldwide through St. Jude discoveries. The hospital has played a pivotal role in pushing U.S. pediatric cancer survival rates from 20 to 80 percent overall, and is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. It is also a leader in the research and treatment of blood disorders and infectious diseases in children. St. Jude was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, who believed that no child should die in the dawn of life.
